Looi Kien Leong leads ASOCIO as the 13th President

MELBOURNE, Dec 25, 2009 - (ACN Newswire) - The Asian-Oceanian Computing Industry Organization (ASOCIO) has announced Looi Kien Leong as its 13th President. The appointment was endorsed by the General Assembly held here on December 15, 2009.

"It is an honor to both PIKOM and I, to be given the trust to lead this influential regional organization. It is also a big responsibility and I will strive to lead ASOCIO to greater heights," says Looi.

Lucas Lim, ASOCIO Secretary-General, welcomed the appointment and looked forward to work very closely with Looi in driving the Asian-Oceanian ICT industry forward.

As the president, Looi envisages that ASOCIO would play a strategic role in the region's economic recovery on the premise that ICT is the driver and enabler of growth of the economy.

"I will also work hard towards enhancing ASOCIO's presence and relevance to all members; domestic, regional and international markets; and to authorities and policy-makers across the geographically diverse region.

"Of particular importance, I will see to it that ASOCIO reaches out to emerging member economies and offers them assistance in developing their ICT industry including linking them up with the advance markets and players for mutual benefits.

"This could be achieved through Multilateral Trade Visits, ASOCIO Business Exchange and other platforms," says Looi, who has the experience of building links in the region, having founded and grew a large ICT company with interest in the region.

Having been involved in the industry for almost 30 years, Looi is no stranger to the international ICT circle through his active participations in various industry groupings. He has been active in ASOCIO for past decade, having served as Vice President and Director in previous ASOCIO Boards.

Looi is a former chairman of PIKOM and currently serves as advisor and heads PIKOM's International Affairs Committee. He also chairs the Global Trade Committee of the World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA).
