Fujitsu Launches Global Cloud Strategy with Deployment of First Global Platform

TOKYO, Apr 22, 2010 - (ACN Newswire) - Fujitsu today launched its global cloud strategy - a strategy developed through the company's real experience in working with customers on cloud computing services and the trialling and delivery of solutions across the world.

The strategy is rooted in Fujitsu's view of cloud computing as having four modes of consumption. Customers will be offered non disruptive ways of joining any, some, or all of the four modes of infrastructure, application, activity, and content. Fujitsu already offers cloud platforms regionally for the infrastructure mode, and this offering is being reinforced from today with the global deployment of a standardized cloud platform. Provision of services from this platform will be offered on a trial basis starting May 2010 (to be made commercially available in October 2010) in Japan, followed by Australia, Singapore, USA, the UK and Continental Europe, through to March 2011.

This global platform will complement the local cloud platforms, by meeting the needs of customers who require a global standardized ICT infrastructure. Whether they adopt services from the local or global platform, customers will be able to reduce their ICT costs while being more flexible and responsive in their ICT provision, without sacrificing security and availability. They will also be able to benefit from Fujitsu's expertise in telecommunications and networks.

Fujitsu views its cloud computing services as an evolution, not a revolution. The infrastructure mode and application mode are an extension of the conventional services being offered by Fujitsu. The activity mode and content mode, however, represent a significant shift in the way the ICT industry creates value, through the emergence of new business models to create new services for buyers.

With decades-long service business experience, Fujitsu can provide the utmost support in enabling large- and medium-sized customers to transition and migrate their largest and most complex ICT environments to join any mode of the cloud consumption model, with minimal disruption and maximum security. In addition, by forming new alliances with other vendors involved in cloud, Fujitsu will ensure that customers are not locked into proprietary systems.

"Fujitsu has been developing its cloud computing technologies by looking at changes in society and how technology can help people cope with those changes - what we call a human-centric standpoint," says Kazuo Ishida, Corporate Senior Executive Vice President, responsible for ICT Services Business. "In Japan, we have been successful in conducting trials involving ICT infrastructures in areas such as agriculture and healthcare. Through these offerings, we aim to become a leader in providing these types of services around the world."

"We will deliver a standardized cloud service through the deployment of our global cloud platform," comments Richard Christou, Corporate Senior Executive Vice President. "To address the other modes of our consumption model, we will be making further announcements, including in conjunction with our key partners, in the coming months. Fujitsu is now in a position to work with customers to deliver the benefits of cloud."
