SINGAPORE, May 28, 2013 - (ACN Newswire) - Web Structures Pte Ltd, one of the world's leading exponents of environmentally-aware engineering, has taken on a tough new challenge in Goa, Western India.

The Singapore and London-based firm, which has a strong track record in engineering projects, is assisting the Jatia Group to developing a high end luxury resort to be operated by the iconic Toronto headquartered Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts.
Web Structures is ensuring that the development would have minimal environmental impact without causing any negative impact on neighbouring communities.
Global architecture practice WAT&G is the master planner and architect designing the resort, which includes an 18 hole Professional Golf Association (PGA) accredited golf course being designed by British golf legend Colin Montgomerie. London-based design firm 1508 London is also designing a number of stunning private villas for long stay guests as part of the master plan for the development.
As part of the development, Web Structures is designing a stunning 500 metre road and pedestrian bridge crossing the Tiracol River which will be one of the most picturesque in Goa which will form a new transport link between the neighbouring states of Goa and Maharashtra.
The engineering challenge is to build the long-span bridge without touching the water and allowing boats and yachts to pass underneath. Further engineering challenges include a 40 metre difference in height between the banks of the river and the type of ground the bridge's foundations will have to be laid on.
However, Web Structures' track record in creating tourist resorts in ecologically sensitive environments, such as the Seychelles, has provided the confidence that this resort can be beneficial to tourism and the local economy and have a minimal impact on the local eco-system.
Web Structures is supportive of the environmental initiative that the Group has taken in this regard to make this development LEED gold accredited. In this regard, the team is also working on optimising rain harvesting for the development, due to limited rainfall which takes place mainly in the monsoon season and reuse surface and golf course run-off besides re-using treated waste water in various parts of the development.

It is about striking the right balance. We do not want to disturb the village and its people who work the local land and fish the waters.

Four Seasons Tiracol in Goa is the third Four Seasons resort Web Structures has worked on with such a demanding environmental brief and challenging topography and the sixth Four Seasons resort worked on in total around the world. In 2009, Web Structures won international acclaim for its engineering solutions on the environmentally-friendly resort the company has created on the Seychelles.
Web Structures' team of experts used its expertise on the island of Mahe, working to protect and preserve the sensitive local environment in a complex three year project. Web Structures will also bring its expertise, gained on major projects across India, to ensure designs are equipped to meet the challenges of local wind and seismic conditions.
As well as looking at rain harvesting, the team in conjunction with Web Earth (a sister company) will look at other forms of water storage for the development, as well as water sensitive drainage systems, balanced earthwork and other infrastructure challenges inherent in such an environmentally rich brief set by the client.
