BEX Asia 2013: Building the Asia's Green Agenda in Singapore
Asia spurs green drive through the sharing of green philosophies, providing new content and partnerships, at the region's top sustainable event

SINGAPORE, Aug 15, 2013 - (ACN Newswire) - Visitors and participants at Build Eco Xpo (BEX) Asia this year can expect to see an exciting and robust session at its new feature area. The Green View, a platform for industry leaders to share trailblazing green ideas, solutions and trends, will feature even more names in the industry this year.

On top of the strong line-up of leading green professionals, BEX Asia is also expecting more interest, increased country participation and bigger projects at the region's premier green building event.

Strong Line-up of Green Experts

The Green View will see five industry leaders sharing their green ideals and philosophies with industry professionals.

"Growing one's own home from the ground up may sound like science fiction but the technology to do it is already here. Using plant-based material as durable building material are becoming a viable alternative to construct buildings and replace the use of conventional building materials," says Ms Jaye Tan, Sustainable Building Design Architect, from DP architects.

A pioneer to champion the use of renewable eco-friendly building materials in Singapore, Jaye is involved in the first and only project in Singapore to explore low embodied energy yet highly energy efficient facade material. She has also recently won the Green Building Individual Awards by Singapore's Building and Construction Authority (BCA) in partnership with Singapore Green Building Council (SGBC).

"I am happy that BEX Asia has provided me with an avenue to share my green beliefs and ethos with people in the industry. More importantly, through the exchange of ideas at Green View, we can discuss how we can harness the benefits, overcome challenges and maximise the potential of such green technologies," she added.

Mr Tondy Lubis, Executive Director, Facilities Management Asia at Colliers International concurs, "It is through these dialogues that the gaps in the region's green development are highlighted, an important first step in pushing the green agenda forward."

Having specialised in corporate facilities management serving multinational corporations for the last 17 years in the region, Mr Lubis feels that companies in Singapore and the region are lacking in awareness of the need to ensure continuity in green motivation through the different phases of development - from design, construction to operation. He believes that platforms like the Green View play an important role in facilitating the exchange of ideas and knowledge, which is crucial in plugging the gap facing the industry.

"Right now, businesses fail to see the importance in the transfer of knowledge from the design stage of the development to the operation stage, and how this is technically very important to ensure that what was designed will be operated as intended."

At Green View, Mr Lubis will be sharing his experience in the developments and implementations of facilities management programmes and what are some of the concerns in greening new and existing buildings.

"BEX Asia is an exceptional event that enables the building industry and anyone interested in green architecture and masterplanning an instant overview of the latest in green design and green technologies available in the market. It is also an excellent opportunity to meet others with similar interests." says Dr. Ken Yeang, ecoarchitect and ecomasterplanner, principal of T. R.Hamzah & Yeang Sdn. Bhd. (Malaysia), Llewelyn Davie Ken Yeang Ltd. (UK), North Hamzah Yeang (China).

"Being both an ecologist and architect, I am delighted to be speaking at this event and also look forward to meeting and chatting with my fellow colleagues and friends at the event," Dr Yeang added.

Dr Yeang is among the world's leading ecoiarchitects and ecomasterplanners, named '...one of the 50 people who could save the planet...' by UK's leading newspaper, the Guardian. He will be speaking on ecological design and masterplanning at the Green View.

Ms Sarah Greenlees, Architect at Arkitrek will broach the sustainable built environment topic from a softer angle. "As an architect, I believe that we have to think of the long term uses of the buildings we are designing. If not, we run the risk of creating commodities that lack true value to a community, and this is maybe the least sustainable thing we can do.

"We encourage participatory design and often engage with volunteers, students and communities. In all of this we want to share our love of wilderness. I look forward to discussing how we can integrate architecture with social infrastructure and the natural environment at BEX Asia," says Ms Greenlees.

Ms Greenlees will share how how Arkitrek's approach has brought industry, tourism leaders together with the indigenous peoples with a view to promoting tourism while protecting nature.

The five confirmed speakers include:
- Ms Jaye Tan, Sustainable Building Design Architect, DP Architects
- Mr Tondy Lubis, Executive Director, Facilities Management Asia, Colliers International
- Dr Ken Yeang, Principal and co-founder, T.R.Hamzah & Yeang Sdn.Bhd
- Ms Sarah Greenlees, Architect, Arkitrek
- Mr Philip Hannaford, Director, HASSELL Studio
