Organised by Visual Communication Order (VCO) and strategic partner, Singapore Exhibition Services (SES), the exhibition and conference once again promises a line up of prominent speakers from internationally renowned studios, making it an event not to be missed.
New segment for 2009
Serving CG professionals, hardcore enthusiasts, business owners and investors, the event will feature a new segment of Professional Tracks which will focus on six key areas to impart advanced skill sets to professional artists. These tracks are 2D, Story Development, Games, VFX, Character Animation and Business.
These six lecture-style sessions will be conducted by industry gurus from across the globe, and hail from illustrious studios such as Pixar Animation Studios, Lucasfilm Animation Company Singapore B.V., Codemasters, FZD School of Design, Double Negative and Rune Entertainment.
The 2D track will feature renowned artist, Ryan Church best known for his outstanding work on Star Wars Episode II and lll, and his recent works include Transformers 2 and Star Trek. Speaking on the topic of Advanced Digital Art and Concept Development Techniques, the two-day track will give an in-depth and detailed insight of the pipeline of digital painting using paint applications such as Photoshop and Corel Painter. Participants of this track will take away with them key knowledge on producing high-quality illustrations used for pitches and Intellectual Property development in the film and game industries.
CG gurus at CG Overdrive Conference
The four-day annual conference will feature 10 international CG artists, who will share tips and techniques on specific skill sets, and talk about the intricacies of the production pipeline of feature films and AAA games. Participants will also have a great opportunity to interact with these gurus of the CG world during the Q&A sessions.
One of these is keynote speaker Alex Alvarez, founder of the Gnomon School of Visual Effects in Hollywood. He is the president of the Los Angeles Maya Users Group, and has helped change the face of computer graphics and design education. He has been published in industry magazines, websites and books, and recently worked on the James Cameron's film Avatar.
More CG schools make appearance at CG Overdrive Exhibition
For the first time this year, the prestigious Ringling College of Art and Design famed for feeding their talents to Hollywood companies such as Pixar Animation Studios and video game maker LucasArts, will be exhibiting at CG Overdrive. The school's Computer Animation Program was rated the Best Computer Animation Program in North America in 2007. Other schools at the exhibition for the first time are FZD School of Design, founded by industry veteran Feng Zhu, Singapore's La Salle College of the Arts, Raffles Design Institute and SAE Institute.
The exhibition will also allow job seekers to meet various leading studios on the lookout for talent at the event's recruitment zone. Another highlight of CG Overdrive exhibition is CG Excellence, where visitors will be able to view the best CG works of art and films by local and international CG artists.
Video Games Live comes to Southeast Asia for the first time
Another treat for industry professionals, CG enthusiasts, gamers and non-gamers alike is Video Games Live Singapore, an explosive concert and audio-visual extravaganza created with music and animation from the most popular video games of all time. Performed for one night only on 19 June 2009, the show brings audiences on a journey through 30 years of gaming culture, using exclusive video footage and music arrangements from a full orchestra, synchronised lighting, live action performances and unique interactive segments. This is a must-see for gamers familiar with the World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy, and great family entertainment for those looking to relive the nostalgia of Pac-Man and Donkey Kong.
