| Record Exhibitor Attendance at FILMART, Asia's Largest Film Mart |
HONG KONG, Mar 24, 2014 - (ACN Newswire) - Entertainment Expo Hong Kong, Asia's leading entertainment industry gathering, opened today and continues through 13 April at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) and other venues throughout the city.
This year, nine multimedia events are taking place under the Entertainment Expo umbrella, including the expo's three founding events: the Hong Kong International Film and TV Market (FILMART), the Hong Kong International Film Festival, and the Hong Kong Film Awards Presentation Ceremony. Entertainment Expo's other events are: the Hong Kong-Asia Film Financing Forum, the Hong Kong Asian-Pop Music Festival, the IFPI Hong Kong Top Sales Music Award, ifva, the seventh Asian VFX and Digital Cinema Summit, and the Digital Entertainment Summit.
Expo Opening Ceremony
Hong Kong SAR Government Chief Executive CY Leung was guest of honour at this afternoon's Entertainment Expo Hong Kong opening ceremony. Also taking part were: Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) Chairman Jack So; Hong Kong SAR Government Legislative Council member Ma Fung Kwok; HKTDC Council member Peter Lam; Hong Kong Entertainment Ambassador Leon Lai; and PRC State Administration of Press, Publications, Radio, Film and Television Deputy Director-General, Hong Kong, Macau & Taiwan Affairs Office, Yan Chengsheng.
Multimedia Showcase
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the HKTDC's Mr So said that Entertainment Expo "has emerged as Asia's major annual gathering for the industry, attracting more and more industry professionals each year - and from all over the world." Mr So added: "Since its first edition in 2005, focusing just on film, television and music, the expo has expanded to include nine multimedia events, covering every aspect of the entertainment industries."
New FILMART Exhibitors
FILMART, Asian largest film market in exhibitor numbers, continues through 27 March at the HKCEC. This year, more than 770 exhibitors from 32 countries and regions are participating. Brunei and Malta, as well as the Chinese mainland's Shandong, Sichuan and Guangdong provinces, are first-time exhibitors.
Russia features a country pavilion for the first time, while France, Japan, Korea and the United Kingdom have expanded the size of their pavilions. Other returning pavilions include Canada, Germany, India, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and the United States. The US pavilion, with nearly 40 exhibitors, is its largest yet at FILMART.
Asian Reality Shows
FILMART's TV World, which turns eight, is hosting some 360 exhibitors. The theme of TV World's International Forum this year is "New Era of Asian Reality Shows." Other theme zones include: Locations World, spotlighting location shooting; Animation and DE World, featuring more than 30 local exhibitors in a Hong Kong DE Pavilion; the Business of IP Zone; and the Short Film Cafe, which is presenting more than 30 short films and microfilms.
Entertainment Industry Seminars
FILMART's conference series began this morning with "Multiplying Your Revenue: The Power of Online Media. Other industry conferences over the next three days will examine the region's TV reality shows (25 March), Asia's next generation film industry (26 March), and the latest in digital entertainment (26 March).
At the Movies
More than 400 screenings, over 80 world premieres, and more than 70 special events are taking place. In addition, a Sina.com TV wall has been set up, featuring FILMART and entertainment-related news from Weibo.
