Singapore to Host Inaugural International Forum and Exhibition on e-Government from 15 - 19 June

Singapore, June 11, 2009 - (ACN Newswire) - Singapore will host the inaugural iGov Global Exchange which will bring together more than 400 leading e-Government experts from around the world to discuss opportunities and challenges in developing successful e-Government programmes in an increasingly connected world. The Guest-of-Honour and keynote speaker for the forum is Mr Goh Chok Tong, Senior Minister of the Republic of Singapore.

Themed "Integrating Public Services, Engaging Citizens", the iGov Global Exchange is jointly organised by the Ministry of Finance (MOF) and the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) on behalf of the Singapore government's iGov Council, in partnership with the Singapore Exhibition Services (SES). Held concurrently with the annual Infocomm Media Business Exchange (imbX), the event will take place from 15 to 19 June 2009 in Singapore.

At this week-long event, participants will get to experience first-hand the latest e-Government concepts and solutions, as well as consider e-Government collaboration with an international audience. In addition, this event also provides an open platform for governments and industry players around the world to demonstrate their achievements and innovations in e-Government and thereby facilitate mutual learning and sharing among participants.

Presenting Singapore's e-Government Capabilities

Over the last three decades, Singapore has established a reputation for being a leader in adopting innovative technologies in the public sector, and has fostered a pro-business environment that attracts investments. Singapore has topped the e-Government indices of the World Economic Forum's Network Readiness Index five years in a row (2002 - 2006) and has won numerous local and international awards in e-Government solutions. Singaporeans have also continued to express satisfaction with the standard and quality of the government e-services provided to them. "Strong partnerships within the public service and with the industry are critical in our relentless drive towards creating and delivering new and better services to Singapore's citizens and businesses," said Mr Teo Ming Kian, Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Finance and Chairman of the iGov Council.

At the iGov Global Exchange, Singapore will share with foreign delegates and visitors Singapore's infocomm journey and experience. In addition, experts from international organisations, other governments and the private sector will also share their best practices and success stories on the use of infocomm.

"Through this event, we hope to share and exchange knowledge and experiences with other countries in the development of infocomm initiatives to achieve public service excellence. Participants from both Singapore and overseas can discover new and innovative ways to enhance their capabilities in e-Government, by learning and collaborating with each other to meet the needs of citizens and businesses. For our local infocomm companies, the iGov Global Exchange will also help to increase international awareness of their e-Government capabilities," said RADM(NS) Ronnie Tay, Chief Executive Officer of IDA.

"Investments in e-Government services will only move in an upward trend as the world becomes more connected and net-savvy populations across the globe swell. The timely debut of iGov Global Exchange underpins the potential of this sector and establishes a vibrant marketplace to meet growing demands," said Mr Stephen Tan, Chief Executive of Singapore Exhibition Services. "Strategically held with imbX, Asia's largest gathering of government leaders and industry professionals from the infocomm and media sectors, iGov Global Exchange will see a flurry of activity, as the regional industry and public sector make use of this global networking platform to develop meaningful business partnerships."

iGov Exhibition

The dedicated four-day iGov Exhibition, held concurrently with CommunicAsia, EnterpriseIT and InteractiveDME of imbX from 16 to 19 June at the Singapore Expo, will provide a platform for governments and the industry to present their success stories and projects in e-Government. Participants will experience e-Government solutions from around the world in key strategic areas of national development, such as education, healthcare, transport and urban development, and e-services for citizens and businesses. All in, there are about 30 local ICT companies and MNCs exhibiting more than 70 projects, over an area of more than 500 sqm. Please refer to Annex B for a list of participating companies.

MOF and IDA will also be at the iGov Exhibition to present "The Singapore iGov Journey". This central exhibit will offer visitors a glimpse of how infocomm has been strategically used in the past three decades to propel Singapore's economic and social development, and better serve citizens and businesses. Visitors can learn about the initiatives and infocomm masterplans envisioned by the Singapore government in education, transport and land management, and public service delivery. IDA International will also be present to offer e-Government consultancy services to international governments.

Site Visits

For the first time, 11 government agencies and private sector infocomm solutions providers will be hosting site visits to their premises on 16 and 17 June. Delegates will get a better understanding on how the use of infocomm helped facilitate, and in some cases, revolutionise the delivery of public services. The government agencies that will be hosting the visits include the National Institute of Education, the Health Promotion Board, the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority, the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore, the Land Transport Authority and the Supreme Court of Singapore. Please refer to Annex C for the full list of government agencies and companies hosting site visits.
