Nicholas Lemann to Join Thomson Reuters Founders Share Company Board of Directors

London, Oct 17, 2014 - (ACN Newswire) - Thomson Reuters Founders Share Company today announced that it has appointed Nicholas Lemann to its Board of Directors.

The Thomson Reuters Founders Share Company acts as a guardian of the Thomson Reuters Trust Principles. The Trust Principles apply to the entire Thomson Reuters business and are designed to preserve its independence, integrity and freedom from bias in the gathering and dissemination of information and news. The new appointment will take effect immediately.

Nicholas Lemann was born, raised and educated in New Orleans. He began his journalism career as a 17-year-old writer for an alternative weekly newspaper there, the Vieux Carre Courier.

After graduating from Harvard, where he studied American history and literature, he worked at the Washington Monthly, as an associate editor and then managing editor; at Texas Monthly, as an associate editor and then executive editor; at The Washington Post, as a member of the national staff; at The Atlantic Monthly, as national correspondent; and at The New Yorker, as staff writer and then Washington correspondent. He has published five books and still contributes to various publications.

In September 2003 he became dean of the Graduate School of Journalism at Columbia University. During Lemann's time as dean, the Journalism School launched and completed its first capital fundraising campaign, added 20 members to its full-time faculty, built a student centre, started its first new professional degree program since the 1930s, and launched significant new initiatives in investigative reporting, digital journalism, executive leadership for news organizations, and other areas. He stepped down as dean in 2013, following two five-year terms.

Uffe Ellemann-Jensen, Chairman of the Founders Share Company's Board, said, "I am delighted that Nicholas Lemann has accepted to be a Director and Trustee of the Thomson Reuters Founders Share Company. He is a man of high distinction and experience and will bring to our Board considerable editorial and journalistic experience. I look forward to welcoming him as a Board member."
