"Think Asia, Think Hong Kong" Opens Next Week in Europe
Events in Paris, Milan will Spotlight Hong Kong Business Services

HONG KONG, Oct 24, 2014 - (ACN Newswire) - The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) will launch the largest Hong Kong promotions ever in France and Italy next week. The "Think Asia, Think Hong Kong" events will showcase Hong Kong's business advantages and encourage companies in the two countries to use the city's professional services platform to tap opportunities in Asia, particularly on the Chinese mainland.

The events centre around two symposiums to be held in Paris (28 Oct) and Milan (30 Oct). More than 50 key speakers will address the forums; including top executives of multinationals in Hong Kong as well as business leaders and government officials from the mainland, France and Italy.

More than 2,000 business leaders, government representatives, service suppliers and heads of SMEs, as well as opinion leaders and academics with a special interest in Asian affairs are expected to attend the events. "Think Asia, Think Hong Kong" is supported by more than 60 organisations from Hong Kong, France and Italy.

Star-studded Speaker List

Headline guest speakers at the two main symposiums in Paris and Milan include: Hong Kong SAR Government Financial Secretary John C Tsang, HKTDC Chairman Jack So, French Minister of State for Foreign Trade, the Promotion of Tourism and French Nationals Abroad Matthias Fekl and Italian Vice Minister for Economic Development Carlo Calenda.

Other high-level speakers are Mrs Laura Cha, Chairman, Financial Services Development Council, Hong Kong; Norman Chan, Chief Executive, Hong Kong Monetary Authority; Chen Yuehua, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Commerce of Guangdong Province; Chen Rongzhou, Vice Mayor, People's Government of Quanzhou City and CK Chow, Chairman of the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited.

After the main symposium in Paris, four afternoon sessions will cover various industry areas. The themes of these sessions are: "Selling to China and Throughout Asia"; "Hong Kong - a Base for Technology Companies to Grow Their Asian Business"; "Renminbi Internationalisation: A New Era"; "Hong Kong: Asia's Premier Asset & Wealth Management Centre"; and "Hong Kong: The Gateway for Chinese Outbound Investment".

Diversified Exchanges

More than 170 Hong Kong government officials and business leaders from various sectors, including finance, technology, food and wine, and fashion will take part in "Think Asia, Think Hong Kong". There will also be five trade missions comprising members from such industries as fashion, food, technology cooperation and Chinese corporate investors seeking to explore cooperation and investment opportunities.

At the forums, representatives from Hong Kong's professional services firms will offer free legal, accounting and company set-up advice to participants. More than 650 business matching sessions will also be held on-site to help identify Hong Kong business partners. The HKTDC will host two "Hong Kong Dinners" in Paris (28 Oct) and Milan (29 Oct).

Strong Trade Ties

Trade between Hong Kong and France grew eight per cent to HK$90 billion in 2013. More than 300 French companies now operate in Hong Kong. Trade between Hong Kong and Italy has also been growing steadily in recent years. In 2013, total bilateral trade grew 5 per cent year-on-year to HK$74.8 billion. There are now more than 100 Italian companies doing business in Hong Kong.
