Keeping Hotel Branding Consistent Across the Floor
Charles Irving-Swift, Chief Executive Officer, Armstrong DLW GmbH, and a sponsor company at the marcus evans Hospitality EMEA Summit 2014, discusses how hotel operators can keep branding consistent by working with one flooring manufacturer.

LONDON, Nov 15, 2014 - (ACN Newswire) - "The hospitality sector is crowded with different types of four and five star hotels. In such a competitive marketplace, hotel chains must carve out an individual identity for themselves to stand out from the crowd," advises Charles Irving-Swift, Chief Executive Officer, Armstrong DLW GmbH. "Whatever image they wish to project, it needs to be reflected in the design of the rooms and the materials used to construct the hotel, from floor to ceiling. Having one provider for the various flooring materials required in a hotel would ensure consistency and efficiency for the operator," he adds.

Armstrong DLW GmbH is a sponsor company at the marcus evans Hospitality EMEA Summit 2014, taking place in Montreux, Switzerland, 24 - 25 November.

- Why should hotel operators consider working with a single flooring manufacturer?

It would make life much easier for the contractor and architect if they could rely on one supplier for all the materials. There are several flooring solutions to consider for a hotel environment. The hotel spa, gym and kitchen floors will be different from the storage room. Stain and scratch resistant materials are ideal for the reception area where people drag suitcases and the restaurants where people spill drinks, while textile flooring solutions are preferred for the corridors and cushioned floors for the gym. Creating guest rooms with our luxury vinyl tiles can produce very realistic imitations of natural materials, such as wood or stone, with better performance characteristics than the natural products themselves. They can also incorporate logos or inlays to suit the corporate image of the hotel chain. If just one floor manufacturer is used, the colours and structures match better and you can implement harmonious and consistent interior design concepts.

Whatever image hotel operators want to create, whether it is the look of a modern Design Hotel, a Traditional Hotel or a Wellness Hotel, floorings can reflect the desired image and contribute to the distinct identity that will attract a specific sector of the market.

- What sustainable flooring solutions do you offer to green hotels?

Our linoleum product range is completely organic, especially suitable for hotels that place a particular emphasis on their green credentials. A journalist working on a German TV channel came to our factory in Northern Germany and we were able to persuade her to eat the flooring material at every stage of the manufacturing process, to demonstrate it was completely safe and hygienic. She ingested it and lived to tell the story. When people think of linoleum, they remember the dull brown or red floors that existed in schools and hospitals 80 years ago, but a wide range of bright colours and surprising effects are possible today.
