Sunway and Hitachi to Collaborate on Energy Solutions

TOKYO, Mar 19, 2015 - (JCN Newswire) - Hitachi, Ltd. (TSE: 6501), Hitachi Asia (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. (collectively referred to as "Hitachi") and Sunway PFM Sdn. Bhd. ("Sunway") announced a collaboration to implement an energy saving system and efficient energy management system for commercial buildings, facilities and condominiums in developing or developed townships owned or managed by Sunway using Hitachi's expertise in energy technologies.

Since the establishment of Hitachi Sunway Information Systems Sdn Bhd ("Hitachi Sunway"), an IT joint venture between Hitachi Systems, Ltd. and Sunway Technology Sdn Bhd in April 2013, both companies have been exploring opportunities as strategic business partners. This collaboration marks a new milestone, further strengthening the relationship between both parties.

Under the signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), Hitachi and Sunway will conduct a joint study on energy saving technology and energy management system. Hitachi, using its energy management related technology and know-how, will propose suitable solutions to allow Sunway to pursue energy saving and energy management activities, and contribute to developing a low carbon society in Malaysia.

For a start, Sunway headquarters, Menara Sunway, has been selected as the pilot project under the energy saving project. If the collaboration is successful, both parties will accelerate discussions on commercial usage and other possible joint projects.

Sunway Group is a leading property construction conglomerate in Malaysia and constantly innovates to deliver value to its customers and stakeholders. The Group pioneered the Build-Own-Operate model in Malaysia and has built an extensive portfolio of award-winning residential, hospitality, retail, leisure and commercial properties both in Malaysia and abroad.

In its quest for continuous innovation and to bolster its position as a forward-thinking market leader, Sunway continues to make conscientious efforts to embrace new initiatives and technological advancements.

For instance, Sunway together with Hitachi Sunway recently partnered with a leading international IT company in the adoption of cloud-based solutions to facilitate greater efficiencies and collaborations across all its businesses in 50 locations worldwide. In addition, its healthcare arm, Sunway Medical Centre, also invested RM12 million to implement a next generation Hospital Information System ("C-HIS") by Telstra Health, as part of its five-year digital transformation programme. This will replace the traditional paper-based approach of physical medical record handling with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) for seamless record transfer to-and-from the point-of-care.

Hitachi has been providing Social Innovation Business to solve society's and customers' business challenges as well as to improve people's quality of life. Hitachi has been working on several energy saving projects in ASEAN region, and Hitachi will bring this knowledge to the table to provide the best solution to Sunway.
