Indonesian President Invites Chinese Investors for Maritime Cooperation

JAKARTA, Mar 30, 2015 - (ACN Newswire) - Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has invited Chinese investors to develop cooperation in the field of maritime as both countries share a common vision for the sector.

President Jokowi extended the invitation while meeting with Chinese Prime Minister Le Keqiang at the Great Hall of the People, Beijing, on Friday.

"I invite you to explore the possibility of developing any idea, initiative or response from China; I would like Chinese investors to participate in Indonesia's infrastructure development, especially in seaports, shipbuilding, and fishing industries," Jokowi said.

The President told Prime Minister Li that his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jin Ping earlier on Thursday (26/3) was productive.

On Thursday, both presidents signed an agreement on eight strategic and comprehensive partnerships between China and Indonesia.

Jokowi remarked that cooperation in the maritime field has been discussed between the two countries.

"Indonesia and China have the same mission; China has maritime silk lines and Indonesia has the world's maritime axis," Jokowi explained.

Prime Minister Li Keqiang observed that Indonesia and China share many common traditions and both want to encourage world peace.

"His Excellency President Joko Widodo is an old friend to me, I would like to exchange ideas with him," Prime Minister Li stressed.

Li observed that economic cooperation can be encouraged in many areas, including infrastructure, mining, and fisheries.

"Indonesia has a strong desire to support the development of fisheries and other industries because it realizes that one of the requirements to become a modern state is to promote industries," Li noted.

He also stated that China has great technologies and high productivity in infrastructure and industries.

"If you combine the potential of industries, then I am sure it will benefit both parties. Our advantage is our large production capacity and attractive prices. A cooperation that will combine these strengths and potential will create a good impact," he explained.

After meeting with Prime Minister Li, President Jokowi addressed an Economic Cooperation Forum attended by Indonesian and Chinese business people.

The forum, which was held at the Great Hall of the People, aims to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries and exchange business development ideas and opportunities. --Antara.
