The Electronics Fair marks its 35th edition by welcoming new exhibitors from Poland, Russia and the United Arab Emirates.

Two new zones, Smart Tech as well as Robotics and Unmanned Tech, are making their debuts at the fair alongside established highlights such as the 3D Printing zone and Wearable Electronics zone. New conference examines IoT trends

With the rapid advances in smart devices and mobile technology, the Internet of Things (IoT) is playing a bigger part in our daily lives. A new conference held at the Electronics Fair today explores the future of IoT in business. The "IoT Revolution - How does it benefit your business?" conference gathers leaders from some of the world's biggest tech companies to plot the IoT trends and discuss how companies will need to adapt to capture the opportunities from IoT.

The morning session on "Global Trend on IoT Development & The Arising Opportunities" featured top-level speakers including Yuki Hon, Senior Technology Evangelist, Microsoft Hong Kong Limited; Ravi Gokhale, Director and Head of Texas Instruments China R&D; and Vivek Sharma, Global Director, Channel Business Development Group, Intel Sales & Marketing Group. This afternoon, Curtis Sasaki, Vice President of Ecosystems and IoT General Manager, Samsung Electronics; Jo Shum, Senior Director and General Manager, Lighting Hong Kong and Macau, Philips Electronics HK Limited; and Fred Sheu, General Manager, HP Software, Hewlett-Packard HKSAR Limited will speak at the conference on the theme of "The Future Vision of IoT."

Current trends in Smart Tech

Beyond the conference, IoT is an overarching theme at this year's Electronics Fair. A wide variety of IoT-enabled devices are being presented in the Smart Tech zone, which is filled with brands including Intel and Haier. IoT-enhanced products on display include smart cups that automatically record nutritional information and a smart home device that makes air conditioning more efficient by collecting environmental data including temperature, humidity and air ventilation as well as information about outdoor weather conditions. This is used to automatically achieve the optimum settings for the air conditioner.

The Robotics and Unmanned Tech zone has its own variety of smart technology on hand. Aerial cameras, remote-controlled drones and electric scooters are just some of the innovative projects on show. Throughout the fair period, visitors to the "Unmanned Aerial Vehicle" area will be able to see demonstrations of drones in action.

Connecting businesses to new opportunities

Throughout the fair, events ranging from product demos and seminars to buyer forums will give attendees a glimpse of the latest trends in a wide variety of tech sectors. Opportunities in different regions will also be explained, with a seminar focusing on the Shenzhen IT ecosystem taking place tomorrow and another on opportunities in India the following day (15 Oct). "Future Trend of Robotics and Industry 4.0" will be the focus of the Hong Kong Electronic Industry Summit happening on Thursday.

An opening day highlight of the fair is this evening's award presentation of the 2015 HKEIA Award organised by The Hong Kong Electronic Industries Association Ltd. A product demo for the winners on Thursday will give visitors a chance to see these innovations in action.

Jointly presented by the HKTDC and MMI Asia Pte Ltd, electronicAsia is a hub for tech hardware which features a dedicated zone for Keyboards & Switches for the first time this year. Keyboards & Switches is among six thematic zones which include the popular World of Display Technology and Printed Circuit Board zones.
