JAKARTA, Dec 4, 2015 - (ACN Newswire) - Head of the Batam, Indonesia Management Board (BP Batam) Mustofa Widjaja said he is interested in Japan's smart city concept. Mustofa was offered the concept by a delegation from Yokohama City on a visit to Batam on Thursday.
"The concept offered is very interesting, and in line with the vision and mission of BP Batam and its environmental concept. We discussed the offer from the Japan team, and hopefully that concept could become a reality next year," he said.
The Yokohama City team visiting Batam consisted of officials of the Japanese government, IGES and Iforcom Finetech, offering a concept to make Batam as a smart island and Green City. The waste treatment or electricity reduction projects could be adopted at the Hang Nadim airport, the Hospital of BP Batam Authority and the Batam Industrial Estate.
"Such public facilities are major consumers of electricity, especially the airport for room air conditioners and runway lighting. Their consumption of power is expected to be reduced," Mustofa said.
He said BP Batam already cooperates with the South Korean government in water and waste treatment in the Batam Centre area. Therefore, the concept offered by Yokohama City would be passed on to the airport, terminal, hospital and other public facility operators in Batam.
"We welcome the delegation from Yokohama City. We hope relations between the two countries would be better through city to city cooperation," he said.
Yasuaki Nakamura of the Development Cooperation Division of Yokohama said the concept was offered and used at a hotel in the Philippines which succeeded in reducing power consumption 21.5 percent.
In Indonesia, INFORCOM is cooperating with a hotel and a factory in Jakarta.
He said he hoped cooperation with Batam would help save electricity in public facilities and infrastructure especially at the International Hang Nadim airport and the Kabil industrial estate. --Antara.
