More than 4,000 Exhibitors in Hong Kong for World's Largest Gift Fair
Environmental, Health and Technology Products in the Show Spotlight

HONG KONG, Apr 27, 2011 - (ACN Newswire) - The world's largest event of its kind, the HKTDC Hong Kong Gifts and Premium Fair, opened today at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) with some 4,070 exhibitors, a new fair record, offering a range of products.

"Hong Kong is the world's most important sourcing hub for gifts," said Jeffrey Lam, Chairman of the organising committee of the event, which runs until 30 April. "Buyers can find all kinds of gifts products, from basic items to the most sophisticated ones, under one roof." Mr Lam said the record number of exhibitors at the fair perfectly rounds out the peak April sourcing period.

Environment, Health and Technology

The 26th edition of the fair, organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and the Hong Kong Exporters' Association, responds to global demand for eco-friendly and health-related products. The event features two new zones: Green Gifts and Personal & Well-being Gifts, the latter including pampering and health-related products such as toiletries, bath sets, spa accessories and healthcare electronics. Another new highlight this year is Treasure Hunt, showcasing a wealth of gift ideas designed to drive business. These include electronics products and gadgets, executive gifts, fun items emphasising design, seasonal and festive offerings, sporting and outdoor items, and toys.

The fair's Tech Gifts zone returns with electronic gifts, including the latest in mobile entertainment. Among the popular items are note pads with solar chargers for mobile phones, and a variety of USB and PC peripherals.

Renowned Brands, Designers

Mr Lam said that the products offering environmental and high-technology features are backed by a wide range of gifts and premiums with solid design elements. "Quality products with multiple functions and those that comply with green regulations are always well received by buyers," he said.

Supporting that trend, the World of Gifts Ideas zone brings together popular gifts, while the Hall of Fine Designs features high-end, branded items and designer collections. Companies represented in the zones include France's Cerruiti 1881, Germany's NICI, Tangle from the United States and such Hong Kong companies as Adda, Topchoice, Winko, PSL, OOObject, Homade and Xoopar. Renowned Hong Kong designers Prudence Mak, Eddie Hui, Vincent Wong and Angus Wong are also displaying signature collections and design services.

The fair welcomes exhibitors from 36 countries and regions. For the first time, Japan is among the show's group pavilions. Other pavilions are organised by the Chinese mainland, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Macau, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and the United Kingdom.
The Hong Kong Exporters' Association Pavilion features more than 380 Hong Kong manufacturers. The Isle of Originality in Hall 1E promotes innovative Hong Kong design. Four thematic zones in Hall 5E, including Home-style Gifts, Inno Gifts, Kinderland and Ladies' Closet, showcase gifts tailored for various consumer sectors. Buyers can also find corporate gifts, fashion jewellery and watches, party and festive goods, as well as wedding gifts, at the fair.

Emerging Market Opportunities

Seminars spotlight the market potential in Russia and India. Industry experts will also provide the latest market trends in Australia and the United States. A similar focus on the mainland market includes practical tips for customs, import-export regulations and renminbi settlement.

"Reflecting closer cooperation between Hong Kong and emerging markets, Hong Kong exported HK$1,950 million worth of gifts to Russia last year, a 106 per cent increase over 2009," said Benson Pau, Vice Chairman of The Hong Kong Exporters' Association. "Gift exports to Turkey, India and Poland recorded growth of 54, 31 and 25 per cent respectively," he said, adding that Hong Kong's gift exports jumped 17 per cent, to HK$155.7 billion last year.

The HKTDC organised 100 buying missions to the fair. Among the more than 8,600 buyers invited by the HKTDC are representatives from such well-known companies and chain stores as the EK Service Group from Germany and Imaginarium from Brazil. Apart from the US and Europe, buyers are also coming from such emerging markets as Brazil, Indonesia, Russia and Turkey.

Wrapping it Up

Traders can also take advantage of the concurrent Hong Kong International Printing & Packaging Fair, which is underway at AsiaWorld-Expo. The two fair venues are connected by a free shuttle bus service during the events, which are among the seven trade fairs organised this month by the HKTDC. Combined, the fairs have attracted more than 10,300 exhibitors and more than 200,000 trade buyers.
