UC RUSAL Presents "Hong Kong - Moscow: Everyday Heroes" TV Series
Discovering The Common Values and Aspirations of Two Cities

MOSCOW, Oct 13, 2011 - (ACN Newswire) - UC RUSAL (SEHK: 486, EuroNext: RUSAL/RUAL), the world's largest aluminium producer, is pleased to announce the launch of the "Hong Kong - Moscow: Everyday Heroes" TV series. The five-part programme will introduce audiences to people from Hong Kong and Russia contributing to the society in common ways and driven by the same values and aspirations. The series will be shown on Hong Kong's now TV News Channel (332) and now TV Business News Channel (333) starting from 17 October for five consecutive weeks.

Around the world, there are citizens from all walks of life that quietly contribute to society. Despite a geographical distance of roughly 7,000 miles, the people of Hong Kong and Moscow are quite similar on issues close to the heart. This similarity is proven by 10 strangers who have never met each other yet cherish similar ideals - the basis of 10 extraordinary stories. Each week, two individuals from Hong Kong and Moscow with comparable careers will be highlighted for their contributions to society. Even though coming from different social background, their aspirations in life and common beliefs will lead audiences from both cities to stand up and applaud. The parallel of two group heroes, equally touching the hearts of the audience chasing the same goals leads us to the idea that the Moscow and Hong Kong also have more in common that anyone could have ever thought.

The "Hong Kong - Moscow: Everyday Heroes" TV series consist of five episodes:

-- Philanthropist - Giving from the heart is personified by Ms Maria Yeliseyeva and Mr Kee Chi-hing. The former has welcomed more than 1,000 orphans into her home over the past two decades, while the latter gave up a high income career to help training troubled youths in a government-run hair salon.

-- Rescuer - Mr Kirill Borodin, squad leader of Russia's elite rescue team EMERCOM, and Mr Sam Hui, sergeant of the Hong Kong Fire Services Department, both have spent 20 years risking their lives for others. Both of them participated in the rescue work for the Sichuan earthquake in China in 2008. Despite retiring from the Services, Sam is proving that there are still many ways to make a difference.

-- Paediatrician - The life of a paediatrician is a difficult one. In addition to caring for the wellbeing of a child, he/she must contend with the concerns of the child's family. In this episode, the lives of Dr Konstantin Shatalov and Dr Ko Yiu-sum are examined, both sharing the common philosophy of 'never give up'.

-- Teacher - Ms Tatyana Fedyaeva and Ms Helen Law are both educators with immense passion. While Tatyana inspires her students to excel in mathematics and contribute to Russia's scientific achievements, Helen motivates her students to master English so that they can communicate with others and be world citizens.

-- Scientist - Scientific research is a life-long task. Mr Viktor Mann and Mr Zhao Tian-shou are scientists from Russia and Hong Kong respectively. They are conducting different areas of research but have the same goal, which is to develop technologies that can save the environment and bring a better future to the world.

Through the five episodes, "Hong Kong - Moscow: Everyday Heroes" aims to promote mutual respect for the cultural, social and civil makeup of Russia and Hong Kong. In consistent with the Company's goal, RUSAL strives to enhance the linkage between the two regions, as well as the fact that despite the geographical divide, matters of the heart can bridge all borders. Also, RUSAL firmly believes that these 'everyday heroes' should receive recognition from the public for their contributions to society. These heroes are the people who are leading the way, inspiring others, serving as examples to the future generation.

Oleg Deripaska, CEO of RUSAL, said, "The social and economic connection between Moscow and Hong Kong is constantly strengthening. With greater interaction among our two peoples comes understanding of deep values and aspirations which, as proven by everyday heroes of both cities, do not differ at all. Having provided an overall view of Russia during last year's 'Evolution of Russia' TV series, we hope to provide the individual insight this time. By learning more about each other on a person-to-person basis, we can see each other as like-minded fellows, thus establish a solid foundation for longlasting friendly ties."
