ASE Receives "Taiwan Green Classic Award" for IC Packaging

Taipei, Nov 8, 2011 (ACN) - Semiconductor packaging and test company Advanced Semiconductor Engineering Inc. (ASE) has received the first "Taiwan Green Classic Award" in the IC packaging category, awarded by Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) Bureau of Foreign Trade.

The judges, comprising of scholars and experts in the field of environment protection, R&D and design, assessed a selected number of companies based on each company's "green value concepts on product/service", "green supply chain management", "innovative technology and green marketing" as well as corporate social responsibility.

For years, ASE has instilled a strong sense of corporate social responsibility and environmental stewardship into the company's corporate culture. ASE is in full compliance with EU and international regulatory requirements, with its manufacturing processes being certified to ISO 14064-1 (greenhouse gas verification), ISO 14040 (life cycle assessment), ISO 14025 Category 3 (environmental product declarations), and PAS 2050 (product carbon footprint inventory and verification) standards.

To further reduce carbon footprint, ASE is also innovating and developing processes to support eco-friendly-designed products. For instance, the use of advanced processes and technologies to manufacture copper wire packages, and the introduction of large matrix-size substrates, which not only increase efficiency but also help conserve energy and reduce waste.

ASE also closely observes conflict metal management and the EICC-GeSI Conflict-Free Smelter Program, and exercises extreme caution on where the company and its suppliers source these metals.
