Protecting Private Wealth with Rare Coins and Banknotes
Robert Jackman of The Rare Coin Company, a sponsor company at the marcus evans Private Wealth Management APAC Summit 2012 and Institutional Investors APAC Summit 2013, discusses the benefits of investing in rare coins and banknotes as opposed to market reliable assets.

London, Sept 12, 2012 - (ACN Newswire) - The private wealth management industry can take advantage of rare coins and banknotes to diversify investment portfolios and protect wealth, says Robert Jackman, Managing Director, The Rare Coin Company. These assets are consistent in performance and increase in value, he adds.

From a sponsor company attending the upcoming marcus evans Private Wealth Management APAC Summit 2012, in Macao, China, 29 - 31 October, and the Institutional Investors APAC Summit 2013, Jackman discusses the value of investing in rare coins and banknotes, and how to position them to achieve the best outcomes.

- What is the value of investing in rare coins and banknotes?

These are tangible assets with a proven past consistent performance and are not correlated to the markets. Rare coins and banknotes enjoy exposure to a global market, so they can be moved from one country to another very discreetly and easily without any restrictions. This makes them easy to cover, easy to carry and prone to less time management.

A portfolio will be better diversified when it includes these assets and wealth will be protected because regardless of market fluctuations, these assets continue to increase in value. They are very simple to oversee as private wealth managers can place them in the fund and not have to constantly watch the market. Apart from security storage, there is no maintenance and no upkeep.

- How can private wealth managers take advantage of international investments coming into the Australian market?

When international investments come into the Australian market, they are hedged against currency devaluation and fluctuation because they are operating in a different currency. Private wealth managers can also gain international exposure to buy and sell their items abroad. It is very favourable to buy in Australia and sell overseas or back into Australia when items need to be traded.

- How can they strategise to better manage a portfolio?

Firstly, the rarity of the pieces and the numbers available of a particular rare asset must be researched. Managers then need to research the company they are dealing with and make sure it has the necessary expertise in the right field to determine the best strategy. A partnership can then be formed with experts who can assist in analysing each piece, explain why it should be included in the portfolio and provide details about its prominence. Specialists who have been in the industry for a long time can educate managers and give them the right tools required for investing in this specialised field.

- What are the benefits of Self Managed Super Funds?

This is a very flexible style of investing as clients choose what they want to invest in, provided it conforms to legislation. It is an unstructured process that has great potential to produce high returns.

- What other advice can you offer to investors?

Private wealth managers must understand the nature of the rare coin and banknote market but not over-analyse it or look for a definition in past charts.
