| Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair Opens Next Month |
HONG KONG, Aug 22, 2013 - (ACN Newswire) - The winners of the 30th Hong Kong Watch and Clock Design Competition were announced today by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), organiser of the HKTDC Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair. The world's largest watch and clock show opens 4 September and continues through 8 September at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Roadster Watch
The design competition's Open Group Champion was Tam Kwok Tung. His winning entry, "Face/Off," features a bezel that works like the retractable roof of a roadster. The watch opens and closes to allow for the replacement of movements and dials, depending on the occasion or the mood of the wearer.
Space Time
The Student Group's top prize went to Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (Lee Wai Lee)'s Cheung Sui Cheung. His winning watch design, "Shuttle," was created as a tribute to the Russian space programme's 1961 launch of the first man into space. The sleek watch's hour and minute hands slide on independent tracks, as if the watch were a shuttle travelling through space. The 28 winners and finalists of this year's design competition will be on display, in the Hall 1 Concourse, throughout the Watch and Clock fair.
Timepiece Extravaganza
Show highlights this year will include Timepiece Extravaganza, an expanded version of the popular Brand Name Gallery, focusing on top-end brands and designer collections. Timepiece Extravaganza will feature more than 140 brands and include the following thematic zones: World Brand Piazza, Chic & Trendy, Craft Treasure and Renaissance Moment.
World Brand Piazza will showcase a dozen high-end brands: Audemars Piguet, Blancpain, Breguet, Chopard, FRANCK MULLER, Glashutte Original, H. Moser, Hublot, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Piaget, Ulysse Nardin and Zenith. Renaissance Moment will spotlight European brands, including the United Kingdom's Aston Martin, Germany's Elysee and France's Yves Bertin.
Other special areas will include the Small-Order Zone, offering more than 70 showcase units, and the Pageant of Eternity, focusing on complete watches.
Special Events
The Hong Kong International Watch Forum and the Asian Watch Conference are among the special events taking place at the fair. A variety of product launches and watch parades will also be presented.
Public day for Timepiece Extravaganza, 8 September, will feature a watch-making demonstration and several sessions, including one by watch expert Noel Wong. Public Day will also include lucky draws and offer select watches for sale.
Selling Time
In the first six months of this year, Hong Kong exported US$4.5 billion (HK$35.3 billion) worth of timepieces, parts and components, up some two per cent, year-on-year. Switzerland, the United States and the Chinese mainland were Hong Kong's top three export markets.
