Environmental Engineering Scholarship in Singapore Draws Exceptional Students to CH2M HILL

SIWW, Singapore, June 23, 2009 - (ACN Newswire) - CH2M HILL, a global full-service engineering, procurement, construction, and operations firm, is pleased to announce that it has awarded a scholarship to Kenneth Quah Jin Hui for the pursuit of a master's degree in Environmental Engineering at Nanyang Technological University (NTU). The comprehensive scholarship covers full-time course fees, a monthly stipend and on-the-job training with CH2M HILL during term breaks, for a year. On successful completion of the master's degree program, Kenneth will fulfill two-years of employment with CH2M HILL.

CH2M HILL has long been an advocate of science, technology, engineering, and math education, and is actively involved in educating children and students through programs such as Engineers Week, World Water Monitoring Day, and a myriad of classroom interactions and presentations for elementary through college-age students in local communities. The firm also offers an engaging internship program where the majority of the interns are placed in permanent engineering jobs within the company upon completion. This scholarship is an additional way for CH2M HILL to support education and the company's presence in Singapore, as well as to address the continuing need for a highly qualified engineering workforce.

"CH2M HILL has deep roots in environmental engineering and is committed to sustainability through project work and personal volunteer efforts," says CH2M HILL Water Business Group President Bob Bailey. "By helping a qualified student earn his or her master's in environmental engineering, as well as by providing real-life experience at the company, CH2M HILL can help protect and preserve the environment further and encourage young engineers to do the same."

CH2M HILL has been working in Singapore for more than a decade, and the Singapore office serves as the company's ASEAN and India regional headquarters, providing great experience for a young engineer. Some of the projects that CH2M HILL has been involved with in Singapore include working with Singapore's national water agency PUB on the Deep Tunnel Sewerage System, the Changi Water Reclamation Plant, four NEWater plants, the Active, Beautiful, Clean (ABC) Waters Programme, as well as work on the PowerSeraya Seawater Reverse Osmosis plant, and for Seagate Technology, STMicroelectronics, DuPont, the Pan Asia Infrastructure Rollout, and completing numerous comprehensive environmental services.

Kenneth will participate in what is known as the NEWRI Environmental MS (NEMS) Programme. It is a 12-month full-time course comprising of a summer term (9 weeks) at Stanford, and the remaining duration at NTU.
