Indonesia's Suzuki Indomobil Motor Ships First Export Automatic Scooters to 24 Countries

BEKASI, INDONESIA, Feb 27, 2015 - (ACN Newswire) - Indonesian Minister of Industry Saleh Husin expressed his appreciation to PT. Suzuki Indomobil Motor (SIM) for shipping its first exports of automatic scooters to 24 countries.

The first exports of 100cc Suzuki Address automatic scooters were shipped to 16 European countries, 6 other Asian countries and two Oceania countries.

The exports are important in the history of the country's manufacturing industry, especially the motorcycle industry, the minister said in launching the exports here on Friday.

He said it is not easy to enter the European market which demands high quality standard and security.

"The success in entering the European market deserves appreciation," he said, adding, "this shows that Indonesia is able to produce motorcycles which are competitive in the international market."

PT. SIM started exporting small sized automatic scooters with a capacity of 110 cc.

The company said it also plans to export 250 cc models of automatic scooters.

This year's export target is set at 20,000 units but the annual export would be increased in the coming years to reach 200,000 units in 2019, it said.

"I hope other producers of motorcycles in the country would follow the lead by PT. SIM to boost exports to reduce deficit in the country's trade in the automotive sector," the Minister said.

He said the government will continue to seek to improve the investment climate in the country.

"Hopefully the first export (by PT SIM) would signal a good start for exports of the country's automotive products," he said.

Suzuki Address would be exported to Europe including Britain, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Turkey, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, France, Spain, Ireland, Denmark, Belgium, Greece, Finland and Poland; to Asian and Oceania countries including Japan, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia and Cambodia, Australia and New Zealand.
