BEIJING, June 1, 2015 - (ACN Newswire) - Indonesian footwear designer Yongki Komaladi has won two awards in the Seventh International Footwear Design Competition (IFDC) held in Guangzhou, China, on June 1-3, 2015. The Indonesian footwear designer bagged the awards for the children's shoe and women's shoe categories.
"This is a special pride for me and for Indonesia," he informed Antara Beijing during a cellular phone conversation on Monday night. "I displayed about 20 types of shoes. The 20 models were selected from my works in Jakarta and Surabaya."
Born on August 8, Yongki, who is a former model, stated that the competition did not have a special theme for each type of work to be displayed. "In general, it is about transformation in the globalized world," he noted.
Yongki stated that the awards he won were testament to the fact that the works of Indonesians were not inferior to the designs of other countries. "We cannot avoid the free trade era. In the face of free trade, we need to continue making innovations in whatever we are designing, regardless of whether it is footwear, bags, or garments," he remarked.
He affirmed that Indonesia is rich in different cultural products that can serve as a source of inspiration to make innovations that could be developed into designs, including shoe designs. "It is clearly a great asset. Our designs are original, unlike other countries, which develop products with motifs imitating other works," he noted.
Yongki, who began his career by designing men's footwear, is optimistic that Indonesian products are capable of competing with the works of other countries as long as they are supported by all sides, including the government, and the concerned designers show optimism and continue making creative and innovative products.
"The globalized market and free trade have positive and negative impacts. It will depend on how we respond to it," he stated.
In the meantime, Indonesian Consul General in Guangzhou Ratu Silvy Gayatri emphasized that her side will always promote Indonesia's creative goods and other products. "In China, particularly Guangzhou, there are a lot of promotional and trade exhibition activities that could be used by Indonesia to promote its products and to look for opportunities to penetrate into the large Chinese market," she pointed out.
She said it will all depend on how "we respond to the economic dynamism that is taking place in the world. It will need the support of all, including the government and entrepreneurs."
With regard to Indonesian products in Guangzhou, she affirmed that food or culinary products and palm oil, among others, still dominate the products on display. --Antara.
