Australia Keen to Invest in Indonesia's Medan Region

Medan, N Sumatra, Indonesia, Oct 16, 2015 - (ACN Newswire) - Australia has expressed interest to invest in the education, services, agriculture, transportation, and tourism sectors in the Medan region of Indonesia.

"The Australian government is interested in investing in Medan. The government is ready to invite Australian investors to invest in Medan as the city offers a promising outlook for its business sector. The economic growth in the province reached 4.6 percent," Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Paul Grigson stated here on Thursday.

Moreover, Grigson noted that there was a connection between Medan and several big cities in Australia.

"I have met several businessmen in Medan city. Medan's entrepreneurs have established business relationships in Australia. In addition, there are several people who study in numerous universities in Australia," the ambassador pointed out.

Grigson has expressed interest in establishing cooperation in the fields of transportation and tourism development in Belawan.

To attract Australian investors, he emphasized that the local administration should improve infrastructure and the existing regulations.

"Based on the information about Australian businesses, there are fundamental questions related to investment such as land ownership, access to own land, taxes, and business ownership," he remarked.

Meanwhile, Acting Mayor of Medan Randiman Tarigan hoped the Australian ambassador's visit would boost relations between Indonesia and Australia and especially prove to be favourable for the city of Medan.

One of the efforts is to establish a strong and mutually beneficial cooperation to face the era of global trade.

The relations are expected to strengthen and create cooperation in the areas of industry, trade, and tourism.

"We also urge the ambassador to commence direct flights between Kuala Namu International Airport and the airports in Australia," he added. --Antara.
