West Nusa Tenggara Launches Sharia Economics Movement

West Nusa Tenggara, INDONESIA, Oct 20, 2015 - (ACN Newswire) - West Nusa Tenggara governor Zainul Majdi launched a sharia economics movement here on Monday to welcome the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) 2015.

The governor welcomed the initiative of the Cooperatives and Small, Micro and Medium Enterprises' Office of West Nusa Tenggara province to launch the sharia cooperative movement.

"With this movement, we hope the Islamic economy in West Nusa Tenggara can thrive," he said.

Currently, Zainul noted, Islamic financial institutions are growing rapidly at local and global levels. The Islamic banking in West Nusa Tenggara is also growing positively.

He said more and more national Islamic banking institutions are opening their branches in the province. Similarly, the Islamic insurance companies are also expanding their activities.

"This shows that Islamic economic activity in West Nusa Tenggara is growing and I believe it will continue to grow," he said.

He expected that all elements of society have a strong commitment and passion to implement and develop Islamic economics in everyday life.

The governor reminded all parties involved in the conventional financial and cooperative institutions, which are turning to sharia systems, to not only use sharia as a label, but also understand the meaning and values of Islam.

"If we want a blessing, and development and improvement of society's welfare as well, then all businesses must understand the values of Islam," he said.

The head of Cooperatives and Small, Micro and Medium Enterprises' Office of West Nusa Tenggara, Supran, said the office has set a target to establish 500 sharia cooperative institutions in West Nusa Tenggara by 2018.

By October 2015, he noted, the number of sharia cooperative institutions in the province has reached 135 units.

"We are optimistic that the target of setting up 500 sharia cooperatives by 2018 will be achieved because the West Nusa Tenggara community is majority Muslim," he said. --Antara.
