TOKYO, June 7, 2016 - (JCN Newswire) - An LED-based plant factory system developed and manufactured by Showa Denko ("SDK"; TSE:4004) has been adopted by Isetan Cool Japan SDN. BHD. (ICJ, President: Mr. Toshifumi Hashizume)* in order to be installed and displayed at "ISETAN The Japan Store Kuala Lumpur**" which is to be operated by ICJ.
ISETAN The Japan Store Kuala Lumpur is scheduled to open on October 28, 2016 as a new model to disseminate and share "excellent Japanese products and services." This "new look outlet," which will offer products and services including foods, restaurants, fashionable clothes, sundries, and living supplies, is expected to express Japanese esprit (Cool Japan) which should go beyond a mere display of Japanese products and services, and also to create new demands in the local market as well as spinoff impact to the Japanese market.
SDK's LED-based plant factory system featuring our proprietary high-speed plant growth technology, named SHIGYO(TM) Method, will be installed and displayed at the food section of ISETAN The Japan Store Kuala Lumpur as a leading-edge example of "excellent Japanese products and services." ICJ plans to sell the lettuce and other vegetables grown in the plant factory system at the food section of the store, aiming to cultivate new demands of local consumers.

1) SHIGYO(TM) Method: a high-speed plant growth technology
SHIGYO(TM) Method is a high-speed plant growth technology that accelerates the growth of plant at LED-based plant factories by irradiating light with optimum wavelengths and intensity in consideration of the kind of plant and growing stages.
2) LED lighting equipment for plant growth
This LED lighting equipment contains SDK's proprietary LED chips that emit deep-red light with the wavelengths of 660 nm (optimum light for plant's photosynthesis) at the world's highest level of efficiency*** and LED chips that emit blue light. The equipment generates less heat than a fluorescent light with equivalent brightness, saves electricity consumption for lighting and air-conditioning. It can easily change the intensity of deep-red and blue light in accordance with the lighting program of SHIGYO(TM) Method.

3) Aluminum racks for plant cultivation
The racks are specialized for plant cultivation in plant factories, composed of light-weight anodized aluminum frames which are rust-resistant. They feature attachments with built-in reflectors that realize optimum layout of LED lighting equipment to generate uniform irradiation. They are equipped with cassette type LED lights and water tanks (pools) for hydroponics, both of which are removable for easy maintenance.
