HKTDC World SME Expo and IDT Expo Open Today
Design, Technology and Market Expansion Assistance for SMEs

HONG KONG, Dec 2, 2010 - (ACN Newswire) - Nearly 700 exhibitors from all over the world are on hand for HKTDC World SME Expo and HKTDC Inno Design Tech Expo, which opened today at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre and continue through 4 December.

Organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), the fairs were formally opened by Guest of Honour Henry Tang, the Hong Kong Government's Chief Secretary for Administration.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the two fairs, which focus on the needs of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), Henry Tang noted the importance of SMEs in our society. "Over 280,000 SMEs in Hong Kong employ more than 1.2 million people, or almost half of our private sector workforce. They have helped to fuel our economic recovery and maintain a relatively stable employment rate during the recent financial turmoil. Hong Kong is on course to achieve GDP growth of 6.5 per cent for 2010."

Tenth Anniversary Edition

More than 300 exhibitors from 43 countries and regions are taking part in the 10th edition of World SME Expo. Fair highlights include the new "Start a Business" pavilion, which focuses on franchising opportunities. Denny's, Carl's Jr, Round Table Pizza, Golden Spoon and other brands from the United States introduce their franchise models at the fair. Seminars on "China Trade Practices and Solutions," "Global Market Opportunities" and "SME Management" will also be held.

Design on Display

The concurrent IDT Expo welcomes more than 380 exhibitors from 11 countries and regions to the three-day event. The fair's Trade Hall features six thematic pavilions: Design and Branding, Global Innovation, New Media, Green and Sustainable Development, Innovation and Applied Technology, and Research and Development. Inspiration Hall, open to trade and the public, showcases outstanding design from Hong Kong, Japan and Germany. For the first time, Germany's iF award-winning designs are on display.

Japan Showcase

Nearly 60 companies from Japan, this year's IDT Expo Partner Country, exhibit at the fair, presenting graphic, interior, product and technology design in four theme areas. Honda, Nikon, Fujitsu and other major Japanese brands feature some of their latest products at the expo.

Hong Kong innovation is also on display at IDT Expo. The Hong Kong Creative Force pavilion shows nearly 50 award-winning offerings from some of Hong Kong's top advertising, design and architectural professionals. And IDT Expo speakers include Hong Kong image consultant Tina Liu and Prudence Mak, founder and designer of Chocolate Rain.

The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) is the organiser for World SME Expo. The HKTDC is also organising IDT Expo, with the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation and the Hong Kong Design Centre as co-organisers.
