| 25 low-income elderly families in Shanghai to have improved safety and living conditions |
SHANGHAI, May 16, 2011 - (ACN Newswire) - The Dow Chemical Company has joined with Habitat for Humanity China in an effort to bring safe, decent housing to families in need in China. During a Spring Community Build volunteer event held today, the two partners announced Dow's exclusive corporate partnership of the Shanghai Age-friendly Housing Project.

The sponsorship, which will run through September 2011, aims to renovate 25 homes for elderly residents in the Yangpu, Zhabei, and Huangpu districts of Shanghai.
As the exclusive sponsor, Dow Chemical is providing monetary support to fund the project, as well as encouraging its employees to volunteer their knowledge and time to assist in the renovation effort. More than 50 Dow employees participated in today's Spring Community Build. Another Community Build will be held in the summer.

Shanghai has become the first "aging city" in China. By the end of 2010, there were more than 3.31 million residents in Shanghai above 60 years of age, many living in houses not designed for the special needs of senior citizens. Habitat's Shanghai Age-Friendly Housing Project will provide renovations and address urgent safety priorities, such as fire and accident prevention while ensuring barrier-free access for residents.
Dow Chemical and Habitat for Humanity International have been global community partners since the early 1980s, and have built and renovated homes for thousands of families in communities around the globe. In China, the Dow-Habitat collaboration has helped rehabilitate houses for many victims of natural disasters. In 2007, Dow donated money to build homes for 39 families in Shaoguan, Guangdong, who were heavily affected by tropical storm Bilis. In November 2009, a team of 40 Dow employees joined Habitat for Humanity China in Qionglai, Sichuan, to build homes and provide affordable housing for local residents.
