Intuitive survey design generates highest-ever global response rate |
Philadelphia, PA, London, UK, June 22, 2011 - (ACN Newswire) - Thomson Reuters today announced the completion of its Academic Reputation Survey for 2011, achieving more than 17,500 responses from professional scholars in 137 countries. The survey is the largest of its kind ever undertaken by Thomson Reuters and continues to grow in size, gaining a 32 percent increase in responses compared to last year's survey.
Created with the input of numerous academic and scholarly experts, the Academic Reputation Survey aims to be the most comprehensive snapshot of academics' opinion of the world's universities. The assessments gathered through the survey will be combined with other key variables to form a component of Thomson Reuters Institutional Profiles(TM), and will also inform the Times Higher Education's World University Rankings, released later this year.
"The reputation survey is an ambitious undertaking and we are extremely pleased with the high response rate," said Jonathan Adams, director of research evaluation at Thomson Reuters. "The diversity of professional backgrounds and geographies represented among the survey respondents make this the most comprehensive and informative insight into the reputational standing of institutions worldwide."
Key details from the 2011 Reputation Survey response include:
- Geographical spread: 44 percent of respondents were from the Americas, 28 percent from Europe and 25 percent from Asia Pacific and the Middle East.
- Subject spread: Asia is largely driven by Engineering & Technology, Europe by Physical Sciences, Africa by Life Sciences and Oceania by Social Sciences. The Americas have a diverse overall subject spread.
- Academic background: 90 percent of respondents described their role as an academic, research staff or as institutional leader.
Thomson Reuters Institutional Profiles(TM) is a dynamic web-based resource that provides a comprehensive view of nearly 500 of the world's leading academic research institutions. It is part of the research analytics suite of solutions provided by Thomson Reuters that supports strategic decision making and the evaluation and management of research.
