HONG KONG, Oct 25, 2011 - (ACN Newswire) - The sixth edition of Eco Expo Asia opens tomorrow (26 October) at AsiaWorld-Expo, with more than 260 exhibitors taking part. Under the theme "Green Tech for a Low-carbon Economy," the expo is organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd and co-organised by the Environment Bureau of the Hong Kong SAR Government. The four-day fair will open to the public on its last day, 29 October.
"Eco Expo Asia is a business-to-business, business-to-government and business-to-customer fair," said Benjamin Chau, HKTDC Deputy Executive Director. "One of the priorities of the China mainland's 12th Five-Year Plan is to accelerate the building of a resource-saving and eco-friendly society through environmental protection efforts. Hong Kong companies could ride on this and explore the huge market on the mainland."
A variety of environmental protection innovations will be showcased in six thematic zones: Energy Efficiency & Energy; Waste Management & Recycling; Eco-friendly Products; Green Building Solutions & Services; Green Transportation; and Testing, Inspection & Certification.
Other highlights include the three-day Bank of China (Hong Kong) Eco Asia Conference, which will focus on key industry topics. These include eco-opportunities and challenges in the mainland's 12th Five-Year Plan, green-tech transfer and business opportunities, waste management and recycling, clean energy and energy efficiency, as well as green building. In addition, the newly introduced exchange forums will focus on waste management and recycling (27 October) and green building (28 October). A special forum, "New Trends on Eco Testing, Inspection and Certification Services" (28 October), will feature speakers from SGS Hong Kong, the British Standards Institution and the Hong Kong Council for Testing and Certification.
Test Rides on Public Day
The expo's last day, open to the public, will feature test rides of the Tesla Roadster, a high-performance electric sports car. Seats are limited; please register at www.ecoexpoasia.com
The fair presents products and technology from 16 countries and regions. Offerings include: - solar compactors, which collect five times more garbage than traditional trash receptacles - mini-garden planters for building green walls or vertical farming - bio-degradable and water-soluble laundry bags for infection control in hospitals - wireless dimming devices for lighting and blinds - bricks made from recycled glass materials - world's first wireless energy management system - portable LED anti-blackout lights for emergency use - eco-friendly blankets made from recycled plastic bottles
Bamboo Promenade
The fair's specially designed entrance, Bamboo Promenade, makes use of one of today's most popular sustainable materials. The promenade was designed by the Hong Kong Design Institute and the Vocational Training Council, with the support of the Federation of Hong Kong Industries, and was sponsored by the HSBC and the Airport Authority Hong Kong. After the fair, the bamboo will be planted at the Hong Kong International Airport.
Sports Source Asia and the HKTDC Hong Kong International Building and Decoration Materials & Hardware Fair, 27-29 October, take place alongside Eco Expo Asia. In addition, the HKTDC Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (Autumn Edition) runs 27-30 October, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
