Hong Kong, Guangdong Consumer Goods on Show in Indonesian Capital |
HONG KONG, Mar 15, 2012 - (ACN Newswire) - Some 200 companies from Hong Kong and Guangdong Province are taking part in the inaugural Lifestyle Expo in Jakarta, which opened today and continues through 17 March at the Jakarta Convention Centre in the country's capital. Importers, distributors, mass retailers and buyers at mail-order houses, department stores and specialty shops in Indonesia and other ASEAN countries are expected to attend the three-day event.
Growing Consumer Market
"Powered by the largest population in Southeast Asia, and a fast-expanding middle class, Indonesia has a healthy appetite for the good things in life," said Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) Executive Director Fred Lam, speaking at today's opening ceremony. Hong Kong, he added, "can help" satisfy Indonesia's growing consumer tastes.
Also taking part in the opening ceremony were Indonesia's Minister of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises Dr Syarifudin Hasan; Minister Councellor of the People's Republic of China in the Republic of Indonesia Liu Quan; Guangdong Province Department of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (GD-DOFTEC) Deputy Director General Ma Hua; China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Guangdong Sub-Council (CCPIT Guangdong) Vice President Si Qingwei; Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Hong Kong Committee Chairman James Budiono; Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia in Hong Kong Teguh Wardoyo; HKTDC Executive Director Fred Lam; and HKTDC Deputy Executive Director Margaret Fong.
Products on Show
Exhibitors from Hong Kong, the fashion and design capital of Asia, and Guangdong, the manufacturing centre of the world, are showcasing quality lifestyle products in five categories: consumer electronics, gifts and premiums, household products and electrical appliances, fashion and fashion accessories, and watches and clocks.
In addition, the show's Lifestyle Galleria is presenting a wide variety of award-winning products from recent international design competitions. They include designer toys, baby products, eyewear, footwear, watches and clocks, and digital printing capturing attention, and buyers, all over the world.
Special Expo Events
Miss Hong Kong 2011 finalist Hyman Chu took part in the expo's opening parade. She will also participate in a networking dinner this evening. Business seminars spotlighting the latest products, trade services and support measures for Indonesian companies doing business in Asia are scheduled throughout the expo. The HKTDC is also offering free business-matching services and online sourcing assistance.
Lifestyle Success
One of the HKTDC's signature events, Lifestyle Expos have a successful track record in promoting trade between companies from Hong Kong and Guangdong and new markets worldwide. Previous Lifestyle Expos have been held on the Chinese mainland and in Budapest, Hungary, Mumbai, India, and Warsaw, Poland.
Last year, trade between Hong Kong and Indonesia totalled more than US$5.8 billion, up nearly eight per cent over 2010 totals, while 2011 trade between Guangdong and Indonesia was up some 32 per cent, to US$12.4 billion, year-on-year.
Lifestyle Expo in Jakarta is organised by the HKTDC, GD-DOFTEC and CCPIT Guangdong, in association with the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KADIN).
