| Fair's Third Edition Focuses on Product Development, Senior Care |
HONG KONG, May 7, 2012 - (ACN Newswire) - The latest medical devices and hospital and laboratory equipment are on show at the third HKTDC Hong Kong International Medical Devices and Supplies Fair, which opened today and continues through 9 May at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
North American Pavilions
The three-day event has attracted nearly 170 exhibitors from nine countries and regions. The United Kingdom is participating for the first time, while Canada, the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and the United States are presenting group pavilions.
Major brands taking part include Johnson & Johnson and Olympus. The show's biggest exhibitors are the mainland's Jinan Jinri Filming Equipment Co Ltd, Malaysia's LKL Advance Metaltech Sdn Bhd and Hong Kong's Health Co and Profit Country Enterprises Ltd.
Connecting Companies
The popular Tech Exchange zone returns, displaying prototypes of medical devices and equipment, and connecting companies and product developers. The fair's Rehabilitation and Elderly Care zone caters to the increasing demand for senior care, showcasing rehabilitation devices and equipment, including patient monitoring systems, orthopaedic equipment, wheelchairs and related items.
Another highlight is the Hospital Equipment zone, dedicated to specialist electro-medical equipment and hospital technology, including ultrasound and imaging equipment, anaesthetic equipment and surgical instruments.
Market Trends
A series of events during the fair will offer participants plentiful opportunities to discuss the latest industry developments. Seminars will look into market trends, as well as procurement and regulatory updates for medical devices and supplies.
A workshop organised in collaboration with the Hong Kong Doctors Union will centre on cardiology advancements. An Exhibitor Forum will feature the latest product innovations. During the fair's first two days, buyers are invited to vote for the show's "Most Appealing Products."
Hospital Authority Convention
The concurrent Hospital Authority Convention, under the theme "Enhancing Health," will connect healthcare professionals and industry leaders. The convention is organised by the Hospital Authority, which manages Hong Kong's public hospitals.
Growing Exports
Hong Kong's medical and healthcare equipment exports in the first quarter were up 28 per cent over the same period last year, to HK$2.8 billion (US$359 million). Exports to the mainland and the United States, Hong Kong's biggest export markets for medical and healthcare equipment, grew by 39 per cent and 20 per cent respectively in the first three months of 2012, year-on-year.
