Fujitsu Establishes Research Laboratory in China's Guangdong Province to Explore Industrial Applications for ICT
Contributing to the growth of the ICT services industry in Guangdong Province

TOKYO, July 11, 2012 - (ACN Newswire) - Fujitsu today announced that it has established a new research laboratory to explore industrial applications for ICT within its local subsidiary in Guangdong, China. The center, created in an official agreement with the Economic and Information Commission of Guangdong Province, will conduct research and trials of practical applications for advanced ICT services, such as M2M* and cloud computing, along with governmental agencies, corporations, and business groups in Guangdong province. An official signing ceremony was held today at Fujitsu's Tokyo headquarters with Liu Zhigeng, the Vice-Governor of Guangdong Province.

Fujitsu was selected as a partner in this official agreement in recognition of Fujitsu chairman Michiyoshi Mazuka's activities as economic advisor to the governor of Guangdong province, as well as Fujitsu's continued contributions to the province through economic forums and other regular interaction.

In creating this laboratory, Fujitsu aims to support the government of Guangdong in its official agenda to accelerate the transformation and upgrading of its industrial structure for the well-being of the province. Through the center, Fujitsu will leverage ICT in practical applications designed to improve the lives of residents by strengthening the industrial structure and industrial cooperation in such fields as manufacturing and distribution, while also cultivating safe and secure urban development programs and public services.

The government of Guangdong, through the Economic and Information Commission, will provide appropriate information needed for Fujitsu to conduct its research activities, while at the same time supplying advice and proposals for future studies.

In order to strengthen business in China in line with its corporate growth strategy, Fujitsu changed its sales structure in April 2012 to position China as one of its most important business locations by installing Corporate Senior Vice President, Takashi Mori, as Chief Representative for China. By establishing the new research laboratory to explore industrial applications for ICT, Fujitsu is working to expand and strengthen its business in Guangdong province and throughout China.

* M2M: An abbreviation for Machine to Machine, which refers to technology that links machines with information systems over a direct network and collects machine operating status and other information.
