東京, 2020年7月13日 - (JCN Newswire) - 株式会社ホンダ・レーシング（以下、HRC）は、FIM※1ロードレース世界選手権Moto2クラス2013年チャンピオンのポル・エスパルガロ（Pol Espargaro）選手（29歳 スペイン）と2021年からの2年契約に基本合意し、ワークスチーム※2のライダーとして「Repsol Honda Team（レプソル・ホンダ・チーム）」から、MotoGPクラスに参戦することを発表しました。
ポル・エスパルガロ選手は、2006年にFIMロードレース世界選手権125ccクラスに参戦すると、2011年にMoto2クラスへ昇格し、2013年には同クラスのチャンピオンを獲得しています。2014年からはMotoGPクラスに昇格し、これまでに104戦を経験しています。また鈴鹿8時間耐久ロードレースでは、2015年と2016年に2年連続で優勝しています。
