東京, 2020年12月18日 - (JCN Newswire) - NECは、NEC Corporation India(注1)を通じて2018年7月に供給契約を締結した、インドのチェンナイとアンダマン・ニコバル諸島を結ぶ大容量光海底ケーブルの建設を完了し、インド国営通信キャリアであるBharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd.(BSNL、バラート・サンチャル・ニガム、注2)に引き渡しました。
本光海底ケーブルシステムは、チェンナイとアンダマン・ニコバル諸島のポートブレアほか7地点を結び、総延長距離は約2,300km、毎秒100ギガビット(100Gbps)の最新の光波長多重伝送方式が採用されています。
本ケーブルの敷設により、アンダマン・ニコバル諸島の通信環境は飛躍的に向上するとともに、電子政府や電子商取引の推進、教育の電子化など、インド政府によるデジタル・インディア政策にも貢献します。
NECは、過去50年以上にわたり海底ケーブルシステム事業を手掛ける海底ケーブルのトップベンダーです。地球7.5周分のべ30万kmを超える敷設実績があり、特に日本を含むアジア・太平洋地域で強みを有しています。また、陸上に設置する光伝送端局装置・光海底中継器・光海底ケーブルなどの製造、海洋調査とルート設計、光海底ケーブルシステムの据付・敷設工事、訓練から引渡試験まで、全てをシステムインテグレータとして提供しています。なお、日本で唯一、深海8,000メートルの水圧に耐えられる光海底ケーブルを製造可能なNECの子会社である株式会社OCC(注3)が、本ケーブルの製造を担当しています。
