Pacific Conferences Addresses Social Media & PR in Today's Highly Connected Era
Optimising Social Media Opportunities to Sustain Meaningful Stakeholder Connections

SINGAPORE, Jan 22, 2014 - (ACN Newswire) - Social media is not an option. In today's highly digitised and connected era, to stay at the forefront of changing behaviours and perceptions, businesses have started to turn to social media platforms to communicate with their stakeholders. Mr Mark Walters, Director of Communications, KPMG, comments that "the role of social media and its impact on society, business and how business connects with its clients and stakeholders will only continue to grow". Being on social media allows PR professionals to tap on multiple touch-points to reach out to stakeholders. The instantaneous nature of social media enables PR professionals to achieve their objectives in a shorter time frame since insights can be collected in real-time. Mr Walter also adds that "[social media] encourages businesses to listen and stay informed of issues". Thus, it is essential for businesses to formulate a sound communications strategy to remain updated on stakeholders' sentiments and deal with any crisis that might arise due to communications failure.

Gone are the days of publishing formal, lengthy press releases for product launches or company updates. Companies have to align their communications style with social media and develop crisp and catchy messages, together with images, to grab the attention of stakeholders. Besides social media platforms, some businesses have also invested resources to manage a newsroom, sharing interesting stories pertaining to their company, as well as industry. Mr Jamie Morse, Managing Director, Hill+Knowlton Strategies Singapore, adds on that "[the] usage of social media will increase in sophistication, particularly with regards to consumer advocacy, and citizen journalism will become ever more important to governments and businesses as they seek to maintain their influence over stakeholders and stay ahead of social trends and corporate reputation". By embracing the new age communications, businesses will excel further in the social media paradigm shift, engaging and sharing at a whole new level.

To equip PR professionals with practical skills and knowledge to drive engagement on social media, Pacific Conferences is organising a 2-day "Social Media & PR 2014" conference, to be held on 24-25 February 2014 at the Sheraton Towers in Singapore and on 27-28 February 2014 at the Regal HongKong Hotel in Hong Kong.
