Over 1,000 Attendees Join HKTDC Symposium in Paris
"Think Asia, Think Hong Kong" Draws Business and Political Leaders

HONG KONG, Oct 28, 2014 - (ACN Newswire) - More than 1,000 business and political leaders from France, Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland attended the opening plenary session of "Think Asia, Think Hong Kong", a major promotion organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council in Paris today (28 October). John Tsang, Financial Secretary of the Hong Kong SAR and Matthias Fenkl, Minister of State for Foreign Trade, The Promotion of Tourism and French Nationals Abroad, were Guests of Honour at the opening ceremony in Paris this morning.

"Your agenda is impressive and demonstrates the deep interest French businesses have in Asia, Hong Kong and China," said Mr Fenkl. "This is the time for French companies to move to Hong Kong and expand into China," he said, adding, "This is an extraordinary opportunity for our country."

Speaking at the opening ceremony, HKTDC Chairman Jack So highlighted the advantages of Hong Kong's business platform. "Hong Kong is the best place to reach the huge markets in the Chinese mainland and across the whole of Asia," Mr So said. "As the world's freest economy with a low tax regime and trusted legal system, Hong Kong is your gateway to China and Asia."

Mr So also encouraged French companies to take advantage of the HKTDC's global network. "With more than 40 offices globally, including 13 on the Chinese mainland and 11 in Europe, the HKTDC stands ready to help your companies tap into the Asian market," he said.

Notable Speakers

The "Think Asia, Think Hong Kong" promotion in Paris features more than 40 high-profile speakers from a wide variety of business sectors. Following the morning symposium, four thematic sessions are arranged under the themes of: "Selling to China and throughout Asia", "Technology Collaboration", "Chinese Outbound Investment", "RMB Internationalisation" and "Asset and Wealth Management".

Multi-Sector Participation

Professional services providers from Hong Kong's corporate, accounting and legal sectors are offering free on-site business consultation to participants throughout the event.

More than 170 Hong Kong government officials, business leaders from various sectors, and delegates of five trade missions from such industries as technology, food and wine, and fashion, and Chinese outbound investment companies are involved in the week-long programme which moves to Milan, Italy tomorrow with the main "Think Asia, Think Hong Kong" symposium in Milan on 30 October.
